Mrs Beckett went on: "We do n ot underestimate the challenges ahead. But we must not forget the progress made in the last 12 months in bringing the first democratically-elected national unity government to the country, with a constitution voted for by the people. This government has made a good start over the past three months. Continued hard work and determination is required to help build a stable and peaceful future for Iraq."

A question I'd have for Mrs Beckett (who refused to push for a ceasefire in Lebanon last July) would be, "Were the 300,000+ Iraqi's killed directly as a result of the US led invasion of Iraq a price worth paying?". Would Mrs Beckett call for "continued hard work and determination for a stable and peaceful future" if 1000 Britons a month were murdered in cold blood? Or would she scream bloody murder for all to hear?
