I hear there is a documentary coming soon on Jacques Verges. I've always been fascinated by this nebulous and mysterious character and I eagerly await it's release.

Yes, he's a great figure. I read a book of interviews with him, in French, years ago. I remember having a lot of respect and admiration for his attacks on establishment hypocrisy and double standards. When he defended Algerian FLN fighters in French courts his strategy was 'guilty according to your laws, but your laws are unlawful, and now I'll examine why.' As a young man he voluntarily travelled from South East Asia to join the French resistance to Fascism. Years later he defended the Nazi Klaus Barbie on the grounds that the French state, staffed by people who ordered atrocities in Algeria and Indochina, didnt have the moral right to judge Barbie.

Qunfuz, I'd be interested to know if they have an English or Arabic translation of that book. I heard of him for the first time a few years ago and he seems like something out of a fiction novel.
