Venezuela leaves the IMF

"The Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez, today severed ties with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund."

Can I be reading this correctly? I rubbed my eyes twice as I read this headline, but it's true. I do salute his courage, though I've always been cautious of him and other populist leaders, still I sincerely wish him luck on this venture. Though the IMF and World Bank have done some good work, I failed to see them as anything but a tool the United States uses to reinforce it's dominance worldwide.

At first I doubted the prospects of Chavez's "Bank of the South", but I guess the industrial world's addiction to oil is not going anywhere soon so it is probably only right to run it off profits he makes from them. Would the Arab world's mighty 'moderates' in the Gulf who are doing "God's will" by keeping the world economy ticking healthily please step forward and proclaim Chavez as head Sheikh please?
