I cringe inwardly whenever people use words like "British-educated" to describe Syria's Assad and his wife. It's as if this somehow makes them reasonable and sane individuals, and invites incredulity with regards to their current behaviour. So based on this argument are we also to be surprised about Syria's protesters, though the majority have been "Syrian-educated", for their ability to protest and challenge tyranny? Is it only people who have been educated or born in the West who can ask for basic liberties and demonstrate peacefully? Let's stop this silliness, please.
