Notwithstanding Lirun's utterings, I don't think hunger strikes will make much of a difference in this situation. History attests to hunger strikes. They may have been effective there and then. They are definitely a sign of great kindness, compassion and humanity. But, I don't think it goes beyond that in this situation. And showing kindness, compassion and humanity has many ways to it other than going on a hunger strike. I mean if the images of brutality, death, blood, disfigured babies and if the gruesome numbers of deaths, inhumanities and shortages have made no difference, then a hunger strike fails at that in my opinion. I am more pro rallies, demonstrations, public pressure, international community, etc. I mean hunger strikes falls within all that but I don't know. And let's be realistic, the solution at the moment lies in the hands of the big players. End of. This is reality as it is, unfortunately. But, of course, this must not deter the world from being proactive rather than being by-standers.

Agreed Posh, the fasting is more in solidarity with the Palestinians than anything else. When we endure hunger and fatigue of our own volition in support of the oppressed, we put ourselves in a state of mind and body which identifies with them as much as possible. It is harder and harder for us to do injustice to ourselves and to others in this state and from there, a decision is formed which would inform an action that is not stained by worldly and selfish desires.

Nor would it be restrained by the "pragmatism" of our beloved political leaders.

yeah - hurting yourself always solves problems.. its a great idea.. how about razor blades?

you can inflict self damage so much faster..

- seriously guys - what the fuck.. be productive and share the solution - you think the IDF cares if syrians go on a diet or not?

Yes I meet with you on this point definitely. But, sadly I have to agree with Lirun... sadly, but yeah, the fasting *especially* in this case makes no difference.
