I've just heard that prices have shot up further in the past few months in Syria. The price of chicken per kilo is up to 300 SP, Zuchini is up to 150SP and a bundle of umm..ba2dooness is now 25SP (what is ba2doness in English? Can someone tell me?).

Thanks guys! Can you believe that though? Incidentally, are there any marxist Syrian economists you know of or have heard of? It seems to be that most people who examine the economic situation are quite saturated in the capitalist 'tradition' of economics and tend to be LSE or Ive league material and inclinations.

I thought kizbara was coriander, but then I get confused about herbs in both languages.

Wassim, have you read Galal Amin, Egyptian of course, and not very strongly Marxist, but very readable. Please email me on qunfuz@hotmail.co.uk

The leaves of coriander (Coriandrum sativum) are called by their Spanish name, "cilantro", in the USA; but the seeds are called coriander. In the rest of the English-speaking world (except for the US) the leaves and seeds are both known as coriander. Older US cookbooks call the leaves "Chinese parsley".
