British Embassy in Damascus

Does anybody know why the British Embassy/Consulate is now closed for Visa applications in Damascus? Apparently it will remain like this for another year...

It's been like this on and off for the past couple of years. You have to apply at the DHL office in Mezzeh I think.

It's because the British Embassy in Damascus is one of the least secure British Embassies in the world - it is right on the street with no perimeter fence.

The sooner it closes the better. It is disgraceful that people with Syrian passports have to wait outside, and British passport holders wait in a room inside.

I take it you haven't seen how the Americans treat Syrians applying for visas at their embassy?

Good point Yazan. I have a feeling the same arrogance and injustice is operating on all these levels.
