Call to Action: The Golan Heights

There is much occupied land that we must never forget about, yet amongst all the talk about liberating Palestine, Iraq and other occupied lands, we forget a crucial and vitally strategic area which has been slowly "Zionised" since 1967, the Golan Heights.

I'd like to bring everybody's attention to this area, mobilise public opinion, bring it back to our collective consciousness. If fellow bloggers can contribute articles, pictures, links maybe we can form the nucleus of something that can make a difference. If any budding graphic designers can produce some catchy logo's we can put on sidebars in our blogs that would also be fantastic. Anybody interested please leave a comment and we'll start discussing something.

If every Syrian blogger placed that logo on their blog and kept the memory alive then we have done something..

Excellent call Wassim, I am SO in!

Ok here's the articles I got so far, I can make more research if needed:

This article appears on Damascus Online site:

http://www.damascus-online.com/golan/golan_agression.htm

and this one on the Damascus Canter for Human Rights:

http://www.mokarabat.com/dcen13.htm

am sure you read the article by the Syrian blogger Via Recta:

http://viarecta.blogspot.com/2007/05/more-sour-grapes-over-golan.html

there is a website for Golan Heights:

http://www.golan-gov.org/

and one section in Arab 48:

http://www.arabs48.com/cat.x?cid=15

and finally there is a blogger who write on Golan Heights, he's Syrian:

http://freegolan.blogspot.com/

as for the logo, I can ask my sister make us one, she's a graphic designer.

I am also thinking of making the Golan Heights blog active, I will ask his owner if its ok to contribute in co-authoring his blog.

Any thing else boss?

Wow that is a lot of literature to go through, ok let's do this! I'm going to go through all of this and get a plan together, linking sites and what not, but importantly, we need to convince other bloggers to support us by linking to that blog through the logo and what not. I'll try to get in touch with Haitham al Sabbah as well to help increase publicity as well, I hope he'll help us out!

Sabbah is on my friend list on Facebook, you can send him a message there or i dunno.
as for the bloggers, i'll contact some.
and my sis will do the logo but i cannot find a pic of Golan..can you help with that?

I like the idea, Wassim; the Golan Heights is often forgotten in the larger scheme of Israel's occupation of Palestine. The fact that we, the people, seem to have forgotten about it has allowed Israel to rest assured that this topic will not come up for discussion in any settlement. And we seem resigned to the fact. The Goland Heights must have been the easiest catch for Israel, as nobody is asking for its return, at least not seriously.

Ok, for the Golan I've insisted on only using pictures taken before the occupation. I just found it insulting to be using some of the newer (but very nice!) pictures taken by the Israeli settlers or companies that are exploiting the land. I found some nice ones on the golan-gov site you gave me and I'm posting two in particular which symbolise the Golan for us, one of Mount Hermon and the other of a green valley. Let me know what you think?

Lujayn welcome and thanks for the comment! We'll do our best to bring this back to the fore of (net) public opinion!

Amr I don't know what to tell you with all that you have commented on. Frankly your not giving me anything to work with. I always do my best to stay out of cafe politics and hearsay and I'm making no exception about your comments today either. All I can tell you is there are those who know they don't know and those who don't know they don't know. The ones who don't know they don't know are the most dangerous because they lead everybody who listens to them to ruin.

Don't get carried away, take your time and analyse the situation. You'll be surprised with what becomes obvious.
